A free online RPG you play in your browser
WarCrest Online is a free online RPG that runs in your web browser. You make a hero, choose a class, spend stat points, hunt and quest your way from level 1 to 60, collect gear and push it up the + ladder, and take on bosses with other players. This page walks through the role-playing side of the game, from the character screen to the level cap.
An RPG with a living world around it
An online RPG is a role-playing game where your character lives on a server instead of on your computer. It keeps its level, stats, bag and gear between sessions, and the monsters, towns and other players around it are shared with everyone else online. WarCrest Online is a full 3D world built that way: open zones to walk across, monsters with levels on their nameplates, skills on a bar and loot that drops to the ground in chests.
It is also a massively multiplayer game (an MMORPG), so the world is full of real people: players of your own nation to party with, and the other nation to fight from level 40. You play it for free in the browser, with nothing to install; the browser MMORPG page explains how that works.
Making your hero
After you sign up and pick a server, the character screen asks four things. Each account can have five characters on every server, so you can try more than one road.
- Race: humans fight for Valcrest, orcs for Gorzhak. Your race is your nation, so it decides who you party with and who you fight in PvP.
- Gender: changes the look only, never the stats.
- Class: Warrior, Rogue, Mage or Priest. This is the big choice: it decides your skills, your weapons and your armor.
- Name: English letters and digits, 2 to 12 long.
Race and class also shape the body: warriors are broad, rogues lean, mages slight. Changed your mind later? Scroll sellers sell the Scroll of the Other Banner (a new race, and so a new nation, read on the neutral ground of Hearthmoor) and the Scroll of the Other Self (the other gender). A race change takes you out of your clan and party.
Four classes, four jobs
Every class has nine or ten skills that unlock as you level, and each skill does a job no other one does. Every class also has the same plain attack, a weapon hit at melee reach.
- Warrior: the tank. Stands in front, pulls monsters onto itself with War Cry and lands short-cooldown hits on one target. Swords, axes and falchions with a shield, or two-handed waraxes and scythes.
- Rogue: a dagger assassin, never an archer. Hides with Shadow Step, opens with Ambush and roots a target with Hamstring.
- Mage: ranged damage with a staff. Freezes enemies with Frostbite and, from level 20, burns whole groups with area spells aimed with the mouse.
- Priest: the healer. Keeps the party alive, clears poisons, slows and roots, and still fights with Smite and Radiant Strike.
The class guide lists every skill with the level it unlocks.
Stats: three points every level
Every level gives three stat points, 177 by level 60. You spend them yourself in the character window (C), so two characters of the same class can play quite differently.
| Stat | What it does |
|---|---|
| STR | Raises a Warrior's attack power |
| DEX | Raises a Rogue's attack power, and the critical hit chance of every class |
| INT | Raises a Mage's and a Priest's attack power, and the MP of every class |
| VIT | Raises your HP |
Raise your main stat first and put some points into VIT. From level 10 your level also adds HP, MP and attack power on its own, and monsters grow the same way, so fights take about as long at level 50 as at level 15. Your red and blue potions never run out and heal more as you level.
The journey from level 1 to 60
The world opens up as you grow. Each step takes you to a new land with stronger monsters, and the leveling guide shows which camp to hunt at every level.
- Hearthmoor, levels 1 to 20: everyone starts in Emberfold, the town at its heart. It is neutral ground, so nobody can attack another player, and humans and orcs can even party here. The weakest monsters wait right outside the gates.
- Your homeland, levels 10 to 40: at level 10 the gate opens Valcrest for humans or Gorzhak for orcs. Cave Bears, Forest Trolls, Granite Golems and Ogre Brutes wait there, and from the Cave Bears on, monsters attack when you come close.
- The Colony Zone, levels 40 to 60: the long last climb, on open PvP ground shared with the other nation. Its monsters hit hard, so most players do it in a party.
- The Umbral Rift, level 50 and up: twice a day a gate opens into a dark map packed with monsters that drop Riftstones. An hour there is some of the best hunting in the game.
Up to level 9 death costs nothing. From level 10 a death to a monster costs a small part of your current level's XP, never a level.
Quests and the quest log
Quests are taken and handed in from your quest log (Q): there is no quest giver to walk back to. You can keep up to eight open, and each one asks for a number of kills of one monster or an item some of them drop. Party members close by count for each other.
- Hearthmoor has 9 one-time quests for levels 1 to 19, and the homelands 10 more for levels 21 to 39.
- The Colony has 10 daily quests for levels 41 to 59 that come back every midnight, Istanbul time.
- Login rewards and first week goals add Novice scrolls and store looks lent for a day or more.
Quests are a bonus on top of hunting, so take every quest for the monster you already fight.
Gear, grades and the + ladder
Gear is where an RPG character really grows. Monsters drop weapons, armor and jewelry close to their own level, and from level 5 every class has armor of its own, with its own look: warrior plate, rogue leather and scale, mage robes and pointed hats, priest vestments.
- Bands and sets: low tier below level 15 (starter and iron), mid tier from 15 to 39 (steel and mithril), high tier from 40 (dragon at 45 and the level 55 set).
- Grades: common pieces carry their own stats, magic ones one extra random line, rare ones two or three, and boss uniques fixed lines that plain items never have.
- Jewelry: rings, amulets, earrings and belts in Bronze, Silver and Gold, each of Might, Swiftness, the Arcane or Warding.
- The + ladder: Brann, the blacksmith in Emberfold, raises weapons, shields and armor up to +10. The first steps cost only gold, but from +3 on every try needs an Upgrade Scroll, and a failed try destroys the item. From +7 a weapon glows, and from +8 it burns.
The gear and upgrade guide lists every set by class, and the game database shows what each monster drops.
Bosses, mini-bosses and the Riftstone Reel
Every land has bosses worth gathering a party for. Old Tusk guards Hearthmoor at level 12, the Barrow King and Mossback the Ancient stand in both homelands, and the Colony's bosses are level 64 to 72. Bosses drop the best grades most often, and only they drop the boss uniques that shimmer gold in your slots.
In the homelands, roaming mini-bosses such as Redmane and Grimtusk turn up near a camp every 15 to 30 minutes, pay five times the XP and gold of the monsters around them and leave after 20 minutes if nobody takes them down. Riftstones from the Umbral Rift and the coffers of the Crystal Clash are broken on the Riftstone Reel of Nessa the Gemcutter in Emberfold, for gold, scrolls and gear.
Playing together
- Parties: up to six players. Every extra member adds 5% XP, gold and drops, and members within 60 metres share the kill.
- Clans: found one from level 15 for 10,000 gold. A clan holds up to 30 members and climbs from grade 5 to grade 1 with its members' PvP points, which opens clan cloaks.
- Friends, chat and trade: a friend list of your nation, global, party and clan chat, face to face trades and stalls that keep selling while you are away.
The parties, clans and friends guide covers it all.
Events that bring the server together
- The Ancient Colossus: a world boss that rises in the Bowl of the Colony at 13:00, 19:00 and 22:00 Istanbul time.
- The Crystal Clash: twice a day, at 14:00 and 22:00, six players of each nation fight over a crystal in a small arena, from level 20. Everyone who fights takes a coffer home.
- The War of Morgard: every Wednesday and Saturday from 21:00 the two nations fight to bring down each other's War Keeper, for a bonus that lasts until the next war.
The PvP side of the game has its own pages: the PvP and war guide and PvP and the war of nations.
Frequently asked questions
Is WarCrest Online a free online RPG?
Yes. Every class, zone, level, quest and event is free, and the game runs in your browser. The store sells looks and time savers, never weapons or armor.
Do I need to download anything?
No. Sign up on the website, make a character and play in the same tab, on a computer or a phone.
Which class should I pick first?
Want to take the hits in front? Warrior. Quick, sneaky duels? Rogue. Big spells from a distance? Mage. Keeping others alive? Priest. You can have five characters on every server, so you can try them all.
How do stat points work?
Every level gives three points to spend on STR, DEX, INT or VIT. Raise your class's main stat first (STR for warriors, DEX for rogues, INT for mages and priests) and add some VIT for HP.
What is the level cap?
Level 60. You start in Hearthmoor, level in your homeland from 10 to 40 and finish in the Colony Zone and the Umbral Rift.
Can I play it as a solo RPG?
Yes, up to the Colony most monsters can be hunted alone, and every quest is in your quest log. A party levels faster, and the big bosses need one.
Can I lose my gear?
Never by dying. Only the blacksmith can destroy an item: from +3 on, a failed upgrade try destroys it, so only risk what you can afford to lose.
Can I change my race or gender later?
Yes. Scroll sellers sell the Scroll of the Other Banner for a new race (and nation) and the Scroll of the Other Self for the other gender.
Is there PvP in this RPG?
Yes, from level 40 in the Colony Zone, plus the Crystal Clash and the War of Morgard. Hearthmoor and the homelands are safe from other players.
Is the game in Turkish?
Yes. The whole game and website are in English and Turkish: switch with the EN/TR button.
