Beginner's guide
Everything you need for your first hours in WarCrest Online: making a character, the controls, your first quests and the road from Emberfold to your homeland.
1. Make your account and your character
WarCrest Online is free and runs in your browser, on a computer or a phone. Sign up with your email, pick a server and make a character. Each account can have five characters on every server.
- Race: humans fight for Valcrest, orcs for Gorzhak. Your race is your nation, so pick the side you want to play with your friends.
- Gender: changes the look only.
- Class: Warrior, Rogue, Mage or Priest. The class guide explains each one.
- Name: English letters and digits, 2 to 12 long.
2. Controls
| W A S D | Move |
| Z | Target the nearest enemy |
| Tab | Next enemy in front of you |
| R | Attack your target |
| 1 to 8 | Skills on your bar |
| 9 0 | Red potion (HP), blue potion (MP) |
| F | Pick up the nearest loot |
| T | Return to town after a short count |
| Enter | Chat |
| C I K Q | Character, bag, skill book, quests |
| O G N M | Friends, clan, ranking, map |
| Esc | Close a window, or open the menu |
On a phone you move with the joystick on the left and fight with the buttons on the right. The attack button picks the nearest enemy and attacks it in one tap.
3. Emberfold and Hearthmoor: levels 1 to 10
Everyone starts in Emberfold, the town at the heart of Hearthmoor. Hearthmoor is neutral ground: both nations level here side by side, nobody can attack another player, and humans and orcs may even party and trade with each other.
- Open your quest log with Q. Quests are taken and handed in right there, with no quest giver to find. You can keep up to eight open.
- Each monster's level is on its nameplate. Fight monsters near your own level: those more than three levels below you give less XP, and those above you give a little more.
- The monsters close to town are the weakest. The further you walk, the stronger they get.
4. Stats and skills
Every level gives you three stat points. Spend them in the character window (C).
- STR raises a Warrior's attack power.
- DEX raises a Rogue's attack power, and your critical hit chance for every class.
- INT raises a Mage's and a Priest's attack power, and your MP for every class.
- VIT raises your HP.
New skills unlock as you level. Open the skill book (K) and drag them to your bar. Every skill costs MP, so watch the blue bar in long fights.
5. Potions never run out
Every character carries an endless red potion for HP and an endless blue potion for MP. You never buy them: press 9 or 0, wait two seconds, drink again. They heal more as you level.
6. Gear and the blacksmith
- Monsters drop weapons, armor and jewelry close to their own level. From level 5 every class has armor of its own.
- Brann, the blacksmith in Emberfold, raises weapons and armor up to +10. The first steps cost only gold. From +3 on, each step needs an Upgrade Scroll from a scroll seller, and a failed try destroys the item.
- Only push the item you can afford to lose. Keep your favourite weapon safe and try with a spare one.
- Jewelry goes up to +3 by merging three identical pieces with a Jewelry Scroll. Merging never fails.
7. Going home at level 10
At level 10 the gate takes you to your homeland: Valcrest for humans, Gorzhak for orcs. You level there from 10 to 40, among roaming mini-bosses that drop more gold and XP. From level 10, dying to a monster costs a small part of your level's XP, never a level.
At level 40 the Colony Zone opens, where the two nations fight. Read the PvP and war guide before you go.
8. Playing together
- Party: up to six players. Every extra member adds 5% XP, gold and drops, and members within 60 metres share the XP.
- Friends: add players of your nation to your list (O) to see when they are online.
- Clans: from level 15 you can found a clan for 10,000 gold. A clan holds up to 30 members.
9. Your starter pack
The first character of a new account starts with ten of each Novice scroll in its bag: XP +30%, loot gold +10%, run speed, HP, defense and attack. Each lasts an hour. Double-click one in your bag to read it. Only one scroll of each kind runs at a time.
- Read the XP and gold scrolls together before a long hunt, not before shopping.
- Raise your main stat first, then put some points into VIT.
- A party levels faster than playing alone, even with a stranger.
