Umbral Rift guide
Twice a day a gate opens in the heart of the Colony and the bravest players of both nations step into the Umbral Rift: a dark PvP zone packed with level 52 to 60 monsters that drop Riftstones. Here is when the Rift Gate opens, how your hour inside works and what the Riftstone Reel can pay.

The Rift Gate
The Rift Gate stands in the Bowl, the sunken arena at the centre of the Colony Zone. It opens every day at 16:00 and at 20:30 Istanbul time and stays open for 20 minutes. The whole server is told 10 minutes and 1 minute before it opens, when it opens and when it closes. If you turn on notifications in the game menu, the opening reaches your phone or browser even when you are not playing. The calendar button by the clock in the game shows both openings on your own clock.
- Reach level 50. The Colony itself opens at level 40, so you will know the way to the Bowl by then.
- Be in the Bowl when the gate opens, and step through it within the 20 minutes.
- You arrive in your nation's refuge inside the Rift, a safe spot to read your scrolls and set off.
The Bowl is also where the Ancient Colossus rises, so expect company of both nations around the gate.
Your hour inside
- You may stay one hour from your first step inside, even after the gate has closed behind you.
- Leaving and coming back during the same opening does not reset your hour: the clock keeps running from your first entry.
- The next opening gives you a new hour.
- When your hour is up, the game tells you and sends you back to the Colony.
So the two openings are two separate hunting sessions a day. Plan your evening around the 20:30 gate and make the hour count.
Inside the Rift
The Rift is a small, dark map with one refuge for each nation at its two ends. A refuge works like a Colony base: nobody can strike you inside it, nobody can strike out of it, and its fire towers burn enemies who come close. Each refuge has a Rift Trader, who buys your loot, and a Rift Scribe, who sells scrolls, so a full bag never sends you home early. A way back to the Colony stands in each refuge.
Monsters
| Monster | Level | Where |
|---|---|---|
| Umbral Shade | 52 | Four camps between the refuges and the centre |
| Duskbound Sentinel | 55 | Two camps between the refuges and the centre |
| Voidstone Golem | 58 | The four outer corners |
| Riftborn Stalker | 60 | The centre of the map |
The Rift holds more monsters per square metre than the Colony, so you rarely wait for a pull. They attack when you come close. Besides XP and gold every one of them can drop Riftstones, in all three colors. There are no bosses in the Rift: the danger is the other nation.
PvP rules
- The Rift is a PvP zone. Outside the refuges anyone of the other nation may attack you, and you them.
- Kills pay National Points by the same rule as everywhere: a player 10 or more levels below you gives none, and dying to a player costs you half of what your killer gained.
- A death to a player never costs XP; a death to a monster does, from level 10, unless you have Gold Premium.
- Parties are one nation here, as everywhere outside Hearthmoor.
See the PvP and war guide for National Points and the rankings.
Riftstones
Riftstones come in three colors: the Green Riftstone, Blue Riftstone and Violet Riftstone. Rift monsters are the only monsters that drop them. You can also win Green and Blue Riftstones from Crystal Clash coffers, and a stone on the Reel can pay a stone of the next color.
The Riftstone Reel
Take your stones to Nessa the Gemcutter in Emberfold. Each spin breaks one stone of the color you pick, and the reel stops on one of the prizes painted on it. A stone can break empty. The prize must fit before the stone breaks: with a full bag, or gold at its cap, the stone stays whole. These are the prizes on each reel:
| Stone | Prizes on its reel |
|---|---|
| Green | Nothing; 1,000, 3,000 or 8,000 gold; an Upgrade Scroll; a Jewelry Scroll; mithril armor; a mithril weapon (level 30); a Blue Riftstone; a Riftshard jewel |
| Blue | Nothing; 5,000, 12,000 or 40,000 gold; an Upgrade Scroll; a Jewelry Scroll; dragon armor; a dragon weapon (level 45); the Obsidian Hoop; a Violet Riftstone; a Riftbound jewel |
| Violet | Nothing; 25,000, 60,000 or 150,000 gold; a Jewelry Scroll; an Upgrade Scroll; a level 55 weapon; level 55 armor; a Best Upgrade Scroll; a unique jewel; a unique weapon (level 45); a legendary weapon (level 60); Rift regalia |
- Unique jewels are boss jewelry such as Warlord's Signet and the elemental belts.
- Unique weapons are the level 45 boss weapons: Hellmaw Cleaver, Fangs of Hellmaw, Staff of the Old Root and Hollowbell Mace.
- Legendary weapons are the level 60 four: Nightreaper, Duskreaver Daggers, Staff of the Sundered Sky and Crownforge Maul.
- Rift regalia are the Riftcrown Pendant and the Riftwalker Cloak, found nowhere else.
- A Best Upgrade Scroll and every violet prize from a unique jewel up are announced to the whole server.
- Gear prizes can be for any class. Sell or trade what you cannot wear.
The game never shows how likely each prize is, and neither do we. The gear and upgrade guide explains what each tier is worth.
Tips
- Read an XP scroll as you step in. Scrolls keep running through death.
- Go in a party. Party XP, gold and drop bonuses add up, and a Priest keeps you hunting instead of walking back.
- Start on the Shades and Sentinels; move to the Stalkers in the middle once your party is steady.
- Sell on the spot to the Rift Trader instead of leaving with a full bag.
- Keep an eye on the other nation. A party that wins the fight near the centre owns the best camps.
Questions
Can I enter after the gate closes?
No. You must step in during the 20 minutes. Once inside, you keep your full hour.
I left early. Can I go back?
Yes, while the gate is still open, but your hour runs on from your first entry.
Do I need Riftstones to use the Reel?
Yes, one stone per spin. Crystal Clash coffers are broken on the same Reel.
Is the Rift good for leveling?
For level 50 and up it is the best hunting in the game, as the leveling guide says. Bring a party and a scroll.
Look up every Rift monster and stone in the database. From level 20 you can also earn coffers in the Crystal Clash, and twice a week the nations meet in the War of Morgard.
