Gold and trading guide
How to earn gold in WarCrest Online and how to spend it well: monster gold and loot, selling to merchants, Gold Bars, your own market stall, the Market Scroll and trading with other players.
1. Where gold comes from
Gold is the currency of the world. You pay it at the blacksmith for upgrades, at the scribes for scrolls, at the Clan Stewards for clan cloaks, and other players ask for it at their stalls. The store sells no gold: you earn it in the game.
- Monsters drop gold in their loot chest, more the higher their level.
- Quests pay gold on top of XP, from 40 gold for the first quest in Hearthmoor up to several thousand in the Colony Zone.
- Items you do not need sell to merchants for gold, or to other players for much more.
- The Riftstone Reel of Nessa the Gemcutter in Emberfold turns Riftstones from the Umbral Rift into prizes, gold among them. The PvP and war guide explains the Rift.
A character can carry at most 2,100,000,000 gold.
2. Monster gold and loot chests
A slain monster leaves a chest with its gold and any items it dropped. Click the chest or press F to open the nearest one, then take what you want. For 15 seconds the chest belongs to the player who did the most damage and their party; after that anyone may open it, and after a minute it is gone. Do not wander off mid-fight and leave your loot behind.
A monster's gold grows with its level. A few examples from the game database:
| Monster | Level | Where | Gold a kill |
|---|---|---|---|
| Stone Husk | 5 | Hearthmoor | 9 to 16 |
| Bandit | 11 | Hearthmoor and the homelands | 24 to 42 |
| Ogre Brute | 38 | Valcrest, Gorzhak | 175 to 305 |
| Crown Champion | 56 | Colony Zone | 355 to 615 |
In a party the gold of a chest is split evenly between the members within 60 metres, and every extra member adds 5% to the whole chest first, so nobody loses by grouping. Items go round the party one at a time, skipping anyone whose bag is full.
Watch for GM events too: a game master can drop Gilded Imps, event monsters that carry 1,500 to 4,000 gold each.
3. Selling to merchants
Every town has a trader who buys what you bring: Oswin in Emberfold, Corvin in Valcrest and Throk in Gorzhak. The scribes and Brann the blacksmith buy items too, and in the Umbral Rift the Rift Traders Hollin and Grasha buy (but sell nothing) so you can empty your bag without leaving your hour there.
Hover an item, or tap it on a phone, to see its price: the tooltip says "Sells for ... gold" or "Cannot be sold". The price starts from the item's base value and rises with its grade and its + level:
| Grade | Merchant pays |
|---|---|
| Common | 1x the base value |
| Magic | 1.5x |
| Rare | 3x |
| Unique | 5x |
| Each + level | another 25% of that |
In the merchant's Sell tab you drag items from your bag into the list and sell them together. The + Materials button adds every monster part in your bag at once. It leaves your Gold Bars and Riftstones where they are, so a quick sale never sells them by mistake.
Scrolls are a poor way to make gold. A scribe sells an Upgrade Scroll for 100,000 gold and traders buy it back for 5,000, so only sell scrolls you found and will never use. A magic, rare or unique piece of gear is often worth far more at your stall than at a trader.
4. Gold Bars and the warehouse
A Gold Bar is 100,000,000 gold in one item. The scribes Ilsa (Emberfold), Wendell (Valcrest) and Vashka (Gorzhak) sell it for 100,000,000 and merchants buy it back for the same, so nothing is lost either way. Use bars to put a large sum in a stall or a trade as a single item, or to hold more than the carry limit allows.
Every character also has a warehouse with 48 slots and its own gold store, kept by Garrick in Emberfold, Ysolde in Valcrest and Morga in Gorzhak. Double-click an item to store it or take it back. The warehouse belongs to one character: moving items to another of your characters goes through a trade.
5. Your own stall
The best prices come from other players. From level 10 you can open a stall with the Stall button at the foot of your bag (I):
- Where: inside the walls of a town that is not a PvP zone, so in Emberfold, Valcrest or Gorzhak, out of combat. Stalls stand at least 3.5 metres apart. Emberfold's wide square is the usual market.
- What: up to 16 items, each with its own price (up to 2,100,000,000 gold), and a stall name of up to 32 characters, such as "Cheap swords". Drag the items in from your bag.
- One stall: each character keeps one stall at a time.
When you open it, the items leave your bag and a booth stays on the spot where you stood. You are free to walk away, keep hunting or even log out: the stall keeps selling until everything is gone or you close it. Players passing by see its first four items, and anyone within 10 metres can click it to see the rest and buy.
The gold of every sale reaches you wherever you are, within a few seconds while you are online, and at your next entry if you were away. With game notifications turned on, the game also tells you about sales made while you were offline.
To close the stall, go back to it, click it and press Close stall twice. What fits in your bag comes back; anything that does not fit stays on sale.
6. The Market Scroll
The Market Scroll from the Power Up Store (300 gems, 30 days) lets you shop without walking. Keep it in your bag and use it to open a window listing every stall of your nation on your server. Search by item name, sort by price or by date, and buy straight from the window, from anywhere in the world. The seller is paid as if you had stood at their stall.
7. Trading with players
For a direct swap, select a player and press Trade in their target frame. They have 30 seconds to accept, and you must stand within 8 metres of each other.
- Each side offers up to 8 items and any amount of gold, dragged in from the bag.
- When both offers look right, both press Accept. Any change to either offer resets both accepts, so nobody can swap an item at the last second.
- The trade fails if a bag has no room or a character would pass the gold limit.
You trade with your own nation. The exception is Hearthmoor: it is neutral ground, and there humans and orcs may trade with each other.
8. What cannot be traded
Some items stay with their owner. They show "Cannot be sold" in their tooltip and can go neither to a merchant, nor onto a stall, nor into a trade:
- Store items bought with gems: wings, cloaks, hand glows, the Market Scroll and the rest. They cannot be thrown away either, so a misclick never costs real money.
- Ranking rewards such as the Whitecrown Mantle are bound: never thrown away, sold or traded, and they leave only when their place in the ranking is lost.
- Gifts worth nothing: the Novice scrolls of the starter pack and the login rewards, and the store looks lent for a few days by the reward calendar.
- Cloaks bought with NP or by clan grade: the Colony quartermasters' cloaks and the clan cloaks are earned, not bought from other players.
9. More gold per kill
Several bonuses raise the gold you pick up from monsters, and they all multiply together:
| Bonus | Loot gold | How to get it |
|---|---|---|
| Novice Gold Scroll | +10% for an hour | Starter pack, login rewards, first week goals, invite rewards |
| Gold Premium | +30% | Power Up Store, 500 gems for 30 days |
| Store wings or cloak | +10% each | Power Up Store, 30-day rentals |
| Party | +5% per extra member | Group up |
| War of Morgard | +5% | For the winning nation, until the next war |
| GM gold events | As announced | Watch the chip in the corner of the screen |
Gold Premium also picks up gold for you: the gold of your own or your party's kills within 20 metres goes straight into your purse (shared with the party as usual), while items still wait in the chest. It covers every character on your account and adds +100% XP, +10% item drop chance, +5% NP from player kills and no XP lost when a monster kills you.
Only one gold scroll runs at a time. Double-click one in your bag to read it; its end time shows in the corner, and a double-click there ends it early.
- Read a gold scroll before a long hunt, never before a trip to town.
- Check other stalls before you price yours: the Market Scroll shows the whole market at a glance.
- Leave your stall open when you log off. It keeps selling while you sleep.
- Sell common monster parts to a trader, but put magic, rare and unique gear on your stall first.
